"The Four Freedoms" Speech
_link Summary: In his speech to congress, FDR asserts his concern for the country's safety in the pressing time of WW2. Hopes for a peaceful outcome so America is not threatened to fall. He then explains four basic human freedoms that should exist in all countries of the world including: freedom of expression, freedom to worship, reduction of armaments, and freedom from want. It is quite inspiring. Significance: This shows FDR's conciliatory attitude toward the frightened Americans. Also it shows that most citizens envisioned the ideal world as modeled after their own experience with democracy at home. Many of the freedoms are similar to the rights enjoyed by the Americans because of the Constitution. Also America seems more interventionary. Natalia Zamarripa |
